對蘭花的欣賞與吟詠，在中國已傳誦千年，體現著中國傳統文人雅士的美學觀點。蘭花葉形細長柔軟，花形優雅，散發清香，氣韻清遠，如翩翩君子，古人云：「不以無人而不芳，不因清寒而萎瑣。氣若蘭兮長不改，心若蘭兮終不移。」如此的境界風範，具有品格高潔、美好、賢德、堅貞等象徵意義，遂以「花中君子」稱之，深受人們喜愛，與梅、竹、菊，合稱為「四君子」。
本件作品的蘭花幻化為翩翩飛舞的蝴蝶，蝴蝶是經歷幼蟲、結蛹，最後破蛹而出才有優美的樣貌，因此象徵自由與美麗，從醜變美，蘊含人生往成功與美好邁進。
蘭花氣根攀捲成如意雲紋，古人認為「雲」與「氣」實為一體，是生機、靈性、精神以及祥瑞等的載體和象徵，蘊涵著中華民族的文化理念。
作品中有豐富的昆蟲對話，螳螂與金龜子由下方與蟬及青蛙對望，盡顯大自然美好的生命力。
The appreciation and praise of orchids have been passed down for thousands of years in China, reflecting the aesthetic views of the traditional literati and scholars. Orchid leaves are long and soft, and flowers are elegant and fragrant, with a clear and far-reaching aura, like a gentleman, as the ancient saying goes: “It does not lose its fragrance when no one is around, it does not wither in the cold and bleak. Its spirit is like the orchid, ever unchanged, its heart is like the orchid, never varied.” With such meaning and style, the orchid symbolizes the virtues of integrity, beauty, wisdom, and loyalty, and is thus called “the gentleman among flowers”, deeply loved by people, and ranked as one of the “four gentlemen” along with plum, bamboo, and chrysanthemum.
The orchid in this work is transformed into a fluttering butterfly. The butterfly goes through the process of larva, pupa and finally breaks through the chrysalis to emerge with a beautiful appearance, thus symbolizing freedom and beauty, and the transformation from ugliness to beauty implies that one's life is moving towards success and beauty.
The aerial roots of the orchid curl into auspicious cloud patterns. The ancients believed that "cloud" and "qi" are one and the same, and are carriers and symbols of vitality, spirituality, energy and auspiciousness, which implies the cultural concepts of the Chinese people.
The work is rich in dialogues between insects, with praying mantis and scarab beetles looking at the cicada and frog from below, showing the beautiful vitality of nature.
