This piece is carved from a rare raw ice jadeite stone with colorless and dark emerald shades, creating an ink-wash painting of a Buddhist country in the human world. In the painting, from the incense burner at the bottom, with the smoke swirling around, you can see seven people wearing masks in the middle layer of dark emerald green, which is a metaphor for how most people's lives have been affected by the pandemic in the past few years. At the top, the ice-like colorless area features the five major disciples of the Buddha, metaphorizing the fact that a Buddhist monk has attained enlightenment from the mortal world, and that monk has to be able to go along with everything in life without any obstacles in his mind, in order to be able to embark on the path of liberation from suffering and attainment of bliss.
Further up, we can see the Buddha seated on a lotus platform, which symbolizes that everyone is a Buddha if in the mortal world, he won’t be troubled by the mortal world, and going in and out of the mortal world, he can also save the beings in the mortal world. Next to it is a white elephant kneeling on the lotus platform, representing submission to the Buddha's teachings and wishing for peace and prosperity (homophonic to kneeling elephant in Chinese).
On the back, a pen is used as the main pillar of the work, conveying the idea that from the origin of the written word, culture has been effectively documented and passed down, and that countless people have been given the opportunity to learn and grow.
